  1. Vietnam is to this day one of the few countries that have adapted and accepted a communist form of government. The communist party in vietnam has ruled under three state constitutions. The purpose of these three constitutions was to keep the communist system in circulation. The constitution of 1946 provided the communist regime with a democratic appearance. Under the guidlines of the newly formed constitution, Democratic Rebublic of Vietnam, or DVR emerged with all of its communist beliefs still in play. Each constitution that was passed throughout vietnamese history played a significant role in masking their true form of government, communist.

Vietnams economic system in place differs entirely from its political system in place. Vietnams economic freedom has a score of 51 which ranks it among 145 other countries as the freest economically. Vietnams integration into global trade and investments has facilitated its transition to a more market-oriented economy. The economic system in place is devised to lower the poverty rate throughout the country. However the states role in the economy continually comes to decline. Private sectors and contractors are what currently influence the trade and economic prosperity of Vietnam.

  3. Brazil is the largest country in South America, and the only Portuguese speaking country on the continent. It is bounded by the Atlantic Ocean, and the fifth populous country in the world. With this, Brazil, increasingly rising on the economic ladder, has become the most powerful country in South America. From it's abundant resources, to large agriculture, Brazil's economy ranks highest among all the South American countries and it has also acquired a strong position in the global economy.
In fact, Brazil's economy has been undergoing a continuous growth and development since 2004, which has resulted in a rise in employment, and real wages. As a result of falling wages during 2001 to 2003, the Brazilian economy grew an average of only 2.2% per year. Moreover, the economic system was standing on “a floating exchange rate, a regime that is inflation targeting and a compressed fiscal policy.” This was followed by trade surpluses, and agricultural production leading to an increase in exports. Most of the weaknesses in Brazil's economy, were related to debts. Domestic debts went up from 1994 to 2003, but Brazil controlled this rise in 2006. However, the country was hit by a number of global and internal economic crises, yet the economy did not collapse. According to http://darkwing.uoregon.edu, the reason behind this is the economic policies and programs taken up by President Cardoso, and strengthened by President Lula Da Silva. The president had introduced economic programs to control taxes and increase public investment.
Politics of Brazil take place in a framework of federal presidential representative democratic republic, where the President of the country is both the head of the state, and the head of the governmental multi-party system. Brazil, however, is divided into 27 states, including the Federal District. Like the United States, South America also is made up of three major branches; Executive, Legislative, and Judiciary. Executive power is exercised by the government, Legislative power is vested in the government and the two chambers of the National Congress, and the Judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature. The president holds office for four years, with the right to re-election for an additional four-year term, and appoints his own cabinet.
Government In Brazil: The bicameral National Congress consists of the Federal Senate, which according to wikipedia.org, consists of 81 seats; three members from each state or federal district are elected according to the principle of majority to serve eight-year terms. In this, there are no limits on the number of terms one may serve.

  4. The Philippines is a republic and a market economy run by President Gloria Macapagal- Arroyo. In 2001 economic growth has averaged 5% since President Macapagal-Arroyo came into office. In 2008 the GDP per capita is $3,300. 35% of the population are in the agricultural labor force, 15% are in the industry labor force and 50% are in the services labor force. Since the 1960’s the economy has grown in the manufacturing sector. Agriculture, fishing, and forestry has contributed in over 20% to the GDP. The philippines faces two issues Child labor and Environmental issues. The Environment consist of natural disasters. Child labor is a problem because children have to work for low wages in which they can not survive off of. The natural disasters are typhoons, tsunamis, earth quakes, landslides, and so much more. Also problems in the environment caused by the people are pollution. This is something that must be limited. Child labor is also a problem because these children do not get an education. They are not allowed to be smart and have a real life as a child. The idea is that these kids work to help keep food on the table and a roof over their heads yet they are not getting paid enough money. If they are going to work in harsh conditions and be treated poorly then they should get the money that they worked hard for. It is up to the government to help these children who are illegally working to get paid the right amount of money. There are many issues in the Philippines and they need to be fixed.

  5. During the twentieth century India under went some of the most major changes a country can face, becoming an independent country, a change in government, a division with in its own country, joining the wto, and becoming one of the fasted developing economics in the world. India was a British colony until 1947 were it broke free from the British power. India became the republic of India and created its constitution in 1950 which was specifically made to be flexible to any economic and social changes that India may under go while remaining democratic. In 1965 indian went into its second war with pakistan which ended with the peace agreement and a new cease-fire line, known as the Line of Control (LOC ). Unlike America India's elections are every five years instead of every four, India's current Prime Minister is Manmohan Singh who was elected into office in 2004. In 1990 India's government reform into a socialist-inspired economy, and experience rapid growth and international investment. This economic growth had really changed india mostly due to the major outsourcing that is taking place there, this has opened up new business because it is shown that every one outsourcing job opens about two more for other cooperations. This economic growth is reflected in the GDP of India which is about 3.304 trillion, with a growth rate of 6.1% this shows how India is the second fasting growing economic power in the world today. Its India has about a 9.1% rate of unemployment which is actually better then the United States which has an unemployment rate of about 10%. even with a low unemployment rate India still has about 25% of its population below the poverty line.

  7. India is a country located in the southern part of Asia. Even though it is the seventh-largest country in terms of geography, India is the second most populous nation in the world, behind China. Contrary to India having a mixed economy since it's independence in 1947, but as from the early nineties, 1991 to be specific, increasing economic liberalization has help pushed India to a free-market economy, although the government still have characteristics of a mixed economy. India is the largest country, practicing democracy, in terms of population, even though there is a strong but minor communist party still in existence, known as the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the current Prime minister of India is Manmohan Singh, while the active President in office is Pratibha Patil. The economy of India has become very strong, over the past, over the past decade, due to the revival of economic reforms and better economic policy, making it a rapidly developing nation, predicted to be among the world's leading countries, in terms of economy and urbanization by 2020. Presently, India is facing it's lowest Gross domestic product percentage with 6.1% for the year of 2009, since it's record high of 9.6% in 2006 and the Gross National Product of India is 4.67 trillion. The combined life expectancy of children born in India as of 2009 is 69.89 years. The average male expected to live for about 67.46 years, while the average female is expected to live for 72.61 years. From the time India became an independent nation, the economy was regulated and protected with socialist-inspired policies, which led to corruption and minimal growth, but as of 1991,economic liberalization has moved the economy towards a market-based system of economy.

  8. Located on the continent of South America, Brazil is the fifth largest country in the world. Brazil is the largest country in South America and borders every country on the continent except Chile and Ecuador. Brazil’s national language is Portugese, which is only the official language of nine countries including, Portugal, Angola, and Brazil.
Brazil was capitalized by Portugal for three centuries and in 1822 finally became an independent nation. Brazil has had many political systems and today is a federal republic. President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has been in power since January 1st, 2003.
Brazil is a free market economy that is characterized by its large and well-developed agricultural, mining, manufacturing, and service sectors. Brazil’s economy is greater then the rest of South America, and in 2003 to 2007, brazil had record trade surpluses.
The GDP per capita ,as of 2008, is 5.1%. In 2008 the estimated unemployment rate was 7.9% and 31% of the population was suffering from poverty. Males are expected to live to about 69 years old and females till about 75 years old. 88.65 of the population can read and write. Brazils major exports are coffee, soybeans, iron ore, transport equipment, footwear, and cars.
(LOOKING FOR INFORMATION ON NGO’S AND LAWS THAT ARE AFFECTING THE ECONOMY DIRECTLY, AND ECONOMIC ISSUES THIS NATION IS FACING)
The nation of Brazil faces some globalization issues, two of which are child labor and environmental issues.
In Brazil, the government and many NGO’s are helping to eliminate child labor. UNICEF has estimated seven percent of children between the ages of five and fourteen engage in child labor. However over the past eleven years the government with the help of NGO’s and the ILO has cut the number of children engaged in child labor by fifty percent. The Cordoso administration created a school stipend, which gave families with children of school-age that had good attendance at school money for each child. The Cordoso administration claimed that child labor was “abhorrent practice and an abuse of human rights,” as well as “the goal of his government would be to do everything possible to wipe out child labor, and he made it clear that Brazil would neither excuse nor justify the practice.”
Although Brazil has yet to completely eliminate child labor, the government is working to eliminate the practice completely.

  9. Mexico is located near or under the United States. Felipe de Jesús Calderón Hinojosa, the current president of Mexico since 2006, rules a federal republic type of government. The country as a whole is a developing nation because, although it has a lot of the resources and industries, Mexico is not fully industrialized and up to the standards of other highly developed countries, such as America and UK. The income, or average living wage, is close to a third of the U.S. The sharing of income has soared in prices and became very unequal.

According to CIA World Factbook, Mexico has about one trillion dollars of GDP income, while the GNP income is a trillion and a half dollars. In Mexico, women are expected to live until the age of 79 years old, but male are expected to live up to 73 years old. Also, there are about 100 million people living as the population of Mexico. In 2008, Mexico calculated about 4% of people being unemployed. Besides the style of living, Mexico is known for the many industries. Some of the most known and populated industries are iron, clothing, steel, tobacco, and tourism.

The formation of NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) affected Mexico the most in the past 30 years. When this trade agreement went into effect, trade between the countries of North America increased. The price to export things cost more money to send to Mexico from United States, which cost more money for Mexico. This destroyed jobs in Mexico because they were spending more money, but created more money in United States as they were receiving all the benefits. Another problem that not only affected Mexico, but the world as a whole was the H1N1 virus—swine flu. Many people in different countries were affected by this strain of the flu. The swine flu began in Mexico and spread throughout the world, but mostly affecting Americans. New York State was one of the top states in the U.S. that were affected the most. There is a shot for this flu, but not many people are sure it is effective enough.

  10. Sri Lanka is a republic, located off the coast of India. The nation received independence form Britain in 1948. Sri Lanka is a democracy. The constitution was passed in 1973 and amended in 2000. The economy was socialized until 1977, when it became an open market. The GDP Per Capita was $4,400 in 2008. There are two conflicts that have hindered the globalization of Sri Lanka's economy. An ongoing Civil War from 1983 to 2009 forced the government to focus on defeating a northern insurgency instead of the nation's economy. Sri Lanka will undergo redevelopment to allow globalization to take place. The second issue plaguing Sri Lanka's economy is socialism. Sri Lanka is a socialist republic, which hinders free trade. Socialist regimes have focused on a state run economy to combat poverty, however, socialism prevents a free market.

  11. India is one of the many countries that has an economy that has improved rapidly. India’s economy has been growing 9.2% in 2007 and 9.6% in 2006. This growth is because of markets reforms, huge inflows of FDI, rising foreign exchange reserves, both an IT and real estate boom, and a flourishing capital market. However, starting in 2008, India has been facing some economic challenges. Similar to the U.S, rising oil prices, food and resources play a major role in the economies inflation.
India’s political system is similar to the Unites States political system. Also, India is comprised of individual states. India's central government has authority over states and even has the authority to change the boundaries of the states. The government type in India is Republic. The president is also chosen through an electoral collage. The current leader, otherwise known as the president, is Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil took the salute at the Republic Day Parade 2009 in New Delhi on January 26, 2009.
India's diverse economy includes traditional village farming, modern agriculture, handicrafts, a wide range of modern industries, and a multitude of services. Technology has been growing over the years, but many people still prefer doing everything the old classic way. Services are the major source of economic growth. India has many exports and imports such as steel, cement, machinery and software. It’s GDP per capita is $2,900. The GDP growth rate is 7.4%. Revenues are $126.7 billion. Unlike America’s debt, India is much less. India’s public debt is 56.4%. The electricity consumption rate, 568 billion KWH, is growing rapidly. Exports to U.S are 12.3%, UAE is 9.4% and China is 9.3%. Since a lot of countries require oil and food resources, India makes a lot of profit from just exports.

  12. Brazil is a country far to the east of South America and is extremely large. Brazil has been working on becoming a capitalist country for the past decade or so, and although they are taking a while they are doing it right. They are taking their time but in the long run it is helping them out because they are paying close attention to the steps they are making so they don’t face any setbacks. The capitalist economy will allow the people of Brazil to make individual profits like the type of economic system that is in place in the United States. It gives the Brazilian citizens more freedom, and a chance to grow and advance. Now investors in Brazil have free reign to invest in whatever they want in the market. In Brazil there is a President and a Vice-President, a Legislative Branch, a Judicial Branch, and an Executive Branch to the political system. Brazil is split up into 26 states and they each have their own type of governmental system; although, there are certain rules that all of the states must follow. Brazil is a growing country, but they are not doing to bad in trade right now. Some of their major profit comes from textiles, shoes, chemicals, aircraft, steel vehicles, coffee, wheat, rice, and sugarcane. They are doing well on both the agricultural side and the industrial side, which means they are able to trade on a broader spectrum. In Brazil the average age for people to stop attending school is 14 years old, which is a very young age to stop going. There is no way that these children at this age can possibly know all they need to in order to succeed in the world at just 14. There death rate is not the lowest, but it also does not exceed the death rate of many countries. In fact, it is surprising that the United States has a higher death rate than Brazil.

  13. India is a developing nation situated in the continent of Asia. Its ancestors belonged to the Indus Valley Civilization, one of the world’s oldest civilizations. India received its independence from the UK on the 15th august 1947. With its separation it adopted the legal system of UK. The government type is federal Republic. The Human development index of India is around 0.61. India is a developing nation with over 60% percent of its population literate. However more males than females seem to be literate. The GDP of India is 1.207 Trillion dollars and its GDP per capita is 2900 dollars. 60% of the labor force of the country seems to be involved in labor and only 12% are involved in industry. The India Pakistani war on the Kashmir border seems to never end. Both countries are fighting for land they claim was theirs. There has been several peace talks but none of them seem to last. However the cease fire from 2004 has been maintained. India is also the home to the world’s largest opium producer for the pharmaceutical trade, but however there is a considerable amount of opium diverted to international drug markets. India’s contribution to globalization has shifted from an agricultural to industries nation. It has contributed to 8.0% of global growth. Trade has greatly increased from 25.6%-35.14%.

  14. India, the second most populated country, is rising in their economy. It is the 12th largest economic country to date. Their economic system has been mixed ever since India gained its independence from British rule in 1947. Also, since the country is split into states, each state has its own separate economic systems based on their region and product availability. Considering the country is divided by states, it additionally has different types of handling it politics. India’s political system is a federal republic and its leader is President Pratiblia Patil. Therefore, each state decides their own polices, division of powers, and security. Overall, India’s standards of living are relatively moderate but increasing with each passing year. India’s GDP in 2008 in purchasing power parity was $3.304 trillion which will eventually aid in fight against severe poverty within the country. One law that has had an impact on India is the “Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation Act) of 1986.” This act has forbidden children the under the age of eighteen to work unless medically allowed to. The children under legal age are considered adolescents and it’s a danger for them to be working at that age. Another law that has had a huge impact on India is “Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005”. Now women are more thoroughly protected by the law. Women are now gaining more respect as India modernizes. NGO’s in India have aided in people’s welfare throughout the entire country. NGO’s have helped homeless children and child laborers. One major NGO in India is the Indian Red Cross. Their Red Cross has helped people by giving an education to people to increase opportunities for people to receive a good job and given people in need the help and care they need.

An economic challenge India is facing is keeping the pace or increasing the pace of which it is growing economically. The reason it needs to keep becoming a better economy is to end poverty within the nation and increase living standards. If India were to maintain its progress then it can achieve its goal and lessen the severity of poverty it currently has.

  17. India has become increasingly modernized since the nation opened up to trade and foreign investment in the 1980s. Today, India is a developed nation with a booming economy, yet there are still some challenges that need to be met. The nation's recently increased income is achieved by the numerous services and industries entering the modernized India of today. According to CIA - The World Factbook, the productive services provided in India account for more than half of the fifth largest GDP in the world, yet those who work in the service businesses account for only 28% of the entire population, thus meaning that a small percentage of the population is thriving. The same goes for 12% of the Indian population who work in industries that make up nearly a third of the nation's GDP. Where does the other sixth of India's GDP come from? It comes from Agriculture, a business owned by 60% of the entire population, which is most likely the reason why 25% of the entire population is underneath the poverty line and the standard of living is low for many of India's people. Fortunately, there is good news. This agricultural work force is leading the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) in a movement for a rural economic development program which includes improving the lives of the impoverished rural majority of India and boosting economic performance. However, there is much more that needs to be done, both economically and socially. As of December 31, 2008, for example, India was $229.3 billion in debt caused by increased global commodity prices. There has also been a large number of people suffering and dying because of HIV/AIDS. With a total of 310,000 deaths (as of 2001) caused by HIV/AIDS, this is the largest number of deaths caused by HIV/AIDS, second only to China (350,000 as of 2007).

Like the USA, India is one of the largest democracies in the world (India, in fact, is the largest). Their leaders, such as the Chief of State, Vice Chief of State, and Prime Minister, are elected for 5-year terms by Houses of Parliament and Legislatures of the state (Vice CS elected only by Houses of Parliament and PM elected by majority Parliament House after legislative elections). Also, like the USA, India's government has the three branches of government and allows people ages 18+ to vote. Additionally, according to the India Country Profile on BBC News, the Indian people have felt influenced by the ancient Hindu caste system, which assigns people places in a social hierarchy. In order to empower disadvantaged groups, like the rural poor, such discrimination has been made illegal, thus giving those groups easier access to opportunities, such as education and work. There have been many economic strides and social strides in India, but much more still needs to be done to improve the lives of those living in poverty.

  18. The Vietnamese economic system is a very free a liberalized economy. This is a huge step for Vietnam seeing that the actual nation is Communist. The rising economy is also of importance because Vietnam is still recovering from war. After Vietnam joined AFTA in 2001 trading with the United States had increased by 900% between the years of 2001 and 2007. A very open Market Economy has seemed to help the economy in Vietnam greatly. Vietnams economy will also become more stable due to it's affiliation to the WTO as of 2007. This will help reform any unfair treatment as well as help Vietnam stabilize its economy by trading with the larger part of the world. The economic system enabled in Vietnam seems to be working seeing that the extreme poverty in Vietnam has decreased significantly throughout the years. The market economy is working to Vietnam’s advantage by effectively lowering poverty and also by providing many people job opportunities.
Vietnam’s political system enabled currently is Communism. The current leader of Communist Vietnam is Nguyen Minh TRIET. 94% of the National Assembly had voted for Nguyen Minh TRIET. Elections are held every five years which would seem odd for Americans because, elections are held every four years. There is only one true political party in command in Vietnam and it is the Communist party of Vietnam. There are other parties such as the Democratic Party but they are not viewed as legitimate parties by the Vietnamese government. Though the political system is Communist the economic system is totally different from what one would expect.

  19. I am concerned about the number of blogs I received. So far, fewer than 1/3 of the Seniors I teach have submitted this essential assignment. I will shift the presentation to a 50 question final exam if I do not recive ample work by the end of this week in fear that the students who are not on point will not be prepared to present on time. Of the students who have posted, all of them are in excellent standing (G or higher) in class. I hope there is a turn around soon. I understand that senioritus is inevitable, but I remind everyone that passing class and graduating on time is not. Please encourage your peers and be responsible with the FAIR deadlines I have laid out for you.

  20. Brazil, with its belief in the federal republic, ranks highest among all south American countries and thus has acquired a strong position in the global economy. During 2001 to 2003, Brazil resulted in falling wages which caused its economy to average only 2.2% per year. Yet Brazil’s economy did not collapse however. Brazil continued to grow and develop which led to a rise in employment and real wages. But by 2003 to 2006 Brazil faced a sharp depreciation in their currency which led to drastic adjustments in their current account. In 2008, Brazil had a GDP of $1.573 trillion, and a real growth rate at 5.1 %. Its rate of unemployment was 9.6% and inflation at 3%. Brazil’s major industries are textiles, shoes, chemicals, aircraft, steel, and motor vehicles. Brazil’s agricultural products are coffee, wheat, rice, and sugarcanes. The life expectancy in Brazil is 71.99 years with males at 68.43 and females at 75.73 years of life. one treaty in Brazil is the Double Taxation Prevention which “enables offsetting tax paid in one of two countries against the tax payable in the other, in this way preventing double taxation.” Which basically means when certain income is taxable under the Brazilian income then the Tax Ordinance is taxed. In addition, the NGO cut child labor by 50%. Brazil must face struggles to overcome persistent problems of poverty, corruption and an economy that is sometimes under siege. Furthermore, Brazil is a wonderful country that has come a long way, and is still facing a long travel of controlling its economy and society.

  21. Mexico’s economy system fails to be stable due to the fact of the constantly changing presidents. They have a free Market economy with some modern industries and agriculture. With Mexico’s decreasing state-owned enterprises Mexico is having an increase of money outflow of the country. This leaves the government short to pay for civilian needs and civilian’s in poverty. The Mexican government today is a democracy. Mexican citizen’s vote of a new president every six years. Even though the government of mexico is a democracy the president has all the control over education, national security, and nation industries.

Mexico’s level index of development is actually extremely low at 0.854. The human development is a huge crisis in mexico because of the rapidly increasing poverty levels. Their GDP (Gross Domestic Products) which is the countries overall economic output in a year was at the standard $1.09 trillion. While their GNP (Gross National Product) Which is Mexican nations total value in goods and services was $1.52 trillion. The nations life expectancy rate was only at 74.9 years of age due to poor health services.

  22. The Indian economy is the world's twelfth largest according to market exchange rates. From 1947 to 1991, the India Economic System was based on social democratic-based policies. But the economy has moved to a market-based system with economic liberalization starting in 1991. The growth rate of the economy increased in 2000's with healthier economic reforms and policies. India became the second-fastest growing major economy in the world by 2008. Around 54% of the GDP comprises the service industry while 29% is the industrial sector and 17% is the agricultural sector. The main occupation in India is agriculture which employs 60% of the population. Around 28% of the population is employed in the service sector and the rest 12% are in the industrial sector. The work force amounts to 250 million workers. Out of these 250 million workers almost 35% are under the age of 15 years old.
Child Labor, refers to the economically active population under the age of fifteen years old, who are employed in various industries . Recently, child labor in India has become a large topic of debate; however, in most cases, it is very unfavorable. The perception that globalization is leading towards the exploitation of children, is becoming an important problem for international business. In my opinion, child labor should be eradicated. It is not only harmful to the health of children, but it takes away their chance for an education, and simply takes away their childhood.
The International Labor Organization estimates that 250 million children around the world, between the ages of five and fourteen, work. Out of the 250 million, 120 million of them work full-time . Child labor is common in industries such as agriculture, domestic services, carpet and textile, quarrying and brick making, and also prostitution. Some children work in factories and other workplaces in the “formal economy;” however, many work on farms or in homes. Child labor has many hazardous effects on the health of children. Some children work in areas such as stone quarries, tanning leather, and electroplating metals. All of these working conditions endanger the health of the child. Children in different occupations face different fatal diseases. Silicosis, which is caused from working in stone cutting, brick factories, granite and slate factories is one such disease. Tuberculosis, is also another disease endeared by children in pottery related industries. Another very big problem, because of poor living conditions, is malnutrition.
