Introduction to Globalization through International Trade
We have defined globalization as the growing trend of interdependence of nations around the world in the areas of communication, technology, diplomacy, and trade. While globalization has been around in some form since the inception of ancient global trade (think the Silk Road and caravans across sub-Saharan Africa during the Golden Age of Islam), the past 20 years have marked a swift expansion in the interdependence of modern nations. The results of this trend has been a rapid expansion of technology and trade worldwide, thus resolving economic and development problems in some regions of the globe, while hindering/ complicating development and progress in others.
This process of integration and “transnationality” in policy and trade has not only had a major impact on how nations around the world do business, but also transformed how nations govern and interact with others. As stated by the Levin Institute on their site entitled Globablization101.org, “ Questions of the authority of a country within its own borders—that is, its state sovereignty—the role of the individual in the international community of nation-states, and the authority of international organizations, have all evolved in light of the forces of globalization.” The extent to which international trade has shaped foreign policy and politics will the the focus of our next two weeks of study and this week’s blog.
A key factor in this increase of globalization has been the emergence of trade organizations and associations aiming to limit trade barriers between nations sharing common borders and economic interests. The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and European Union (EU) have probably been the most influential of these non-governmental organizations (NGOs.) Please select ONE of these collaborations to study and complete the assignment below to better understand how their existence shapes both domestic and international economic policy and development.

The European Union includes 27 nations and about half a billion people throughout the world. It encourages trading around the globe with international policies and rules. The goal of the European Union is to unit Europe toward common goals and providing aid to developing nations. The North American Free Trade Agreement is a treaty created to foster greater trade between the United State, Mexico and Canada. It eliminates a large number of tariffs on goods shipped between these three countries.
NAFTA
Positive: NAFTA eliminate a large number of tariffs on goods shipped between the three countries. Thus, Canada and Mexico and carried with them a high purchased many goods from the United State. Since Mexico and Canada do not want to pay high tariffs, goods such as cars, computers and food were not sold in North America.
This treaty has lead Mexico to buy more goods from the United States because it saves money for the Mexican companies on importing, while American companies saves money on exporting Canada has benefited in this way as well, although not nearly to the extent that Mexico has.
Negative: Due to NAFTA, Factories are relocated and jobs were being eliminated which increase US trade deficit. NAFTA has encouraged the problem of illegal Mexican immigrants entering the US to find jobs. This also creates job competition between American citizens and illegal immigrants. The import of United State goods has affected the small farmers income in Mexico. Since the amount of imported goods increases dramatically, many farmers ran out of business.
In fact both Amercica and Mexico has benefited from NAFTA while they’ve also been affected by it. Mexico could save money from the imports while America could save money on exports. However, NAFTA has created a job issue in both Mexico and the United State. In America, more and more illegal immigrants were entering the US to find jobs. This has created a big issue in the United State. Due to the recession in Amrerica, the economy is currently in low condition. Many people were unemployed or underemployed. Illegal Mexican immigrants entering the United Staten has worsen this issue. More people were unemployed due to the intense competition of job opportunity in America. Therefore, although both Mexico and America has benefited from NATFA, there are some negative affect being created from this treaty. But overall, NATFA is a treaty that has benefit all three nations – Mexico, United State and Canada. Therefore, people should be thankful for this treaty. If this treaty was not created, the amount of goods that were being trade within these three nation would decrease significantly.
WOOHOO, im the first one! I got the freebie:)
ReplyDeleteThe European Union is a self-described "family of democratic European countries, committed to working together for peace and prosperity." Its tewnty-seven members maintain a common currency (Euro), allow free movement between member countries, trade without borders, and develop a common foreign security policy. It was originally formed in 1991, as a stronger replacement of the European COmmuniries argreement. Since then, more European countries have joined and others still plan to phase into the Union.
ReplyDeleteOverall, an organization of this scale can drastically improve Europe socially, politically, and especially economically. Lesser recognition of political borders creates more migration between and interdependece of these nations. Members have more rigts and opportunities to explore their nieghboring nations. Undenably, there are a few worries concerning such a powerful and still-developing community of European nations. Small nations with underdeveloped economic systems like the Czech Republic are a financial liability on wealthy countires like the United Kingdom. Therefore, the addition o these nations can drastically decrease the worth of the Euro, which is reintroduced into all participating countries. The effect of the difference in oppotunities between nations is drastic as well, making immigration a great concern as well. From experience, I know many Poles immigrate top the United Kingdom where schooling is better established and economic opportunities are more plentiful than in thier home country. The lack of strict borders could essentially establish a "parasidic" relationshuip between developing, developed, and highly developed countries. Coutnires like the UK and Italy are even being called the future United States, where immigrants will make up the majority of its workforce. However, as members of the EU, nations of all levels of wealth are expected to level the field as all wealth and power is even distributed among membered states. "If the EU wants to reduce migratory pressure, it will have to provide more development aid, debt relief, and fair trade, and it will need to be better equipped to prevent conflict and keep the peace in trouble spots around the world. These objectives lie at the heart of the EU’s common foreign and security policy" (oecdobserver.org). Still, maybe the migration is good as Europe's population is steadily decreasing, and prections indicate the percentage by whcih the populations will decrease is as high as 30. Surely, they could take willing workers from other EU nations. Overall, the EU is a beneficial organization for all countries in Europe. It creates a symbiotic relationship where all members will learn to rely on other nations, creating progress and greater opportunity in place of blindfolds.
Question- Should the European Union continue admitting developing countires and risking their economic stability? Has it taken enough responsibilty already for the moment?
Aleksandra Makowska
NAFTA was trying to make mexico rich and creaate enough incentive to get a jobto keep the mexican population home instead of leaving the country.ten years after signing the treaty an average ofof less than 3.5 was the economic growth. one aspect that is the problem is that the US discussion about immigration policy has split the society as well as some politicle representatives
ReplyDeleteNAFTA (The North American Free Trade Agreement) is one of the key factors in this increase of globalization, which has been the emergence of trade organizations and associations aiming to limit trade barriers between nations sharing common borders and economic interests. NAFTA has created the largest free trade that links 439 million people and produces $15.3 trillion in goods and services every year. NAFTA is especially helpful for agricultural exports because it reduces high Mexican tariffs. According to USTR, NAFTA FACTS, Mexico is the top export destination for beef, rice, soybean meal, corn sweeteners, apples and beans. It is the second largest for corn, soybeans and oils. As a result of NAFTA, the percent of U.S. agricultural exports to Canada and Mexico has grown from 22% in 1993 to 30% in 2007. Also NAFTA tries to eliminate trade barriers. Though a disadvantage of NAFTA would be the allowing of Outsourcing which is when a country puts jobs into another country because it is cheaper. Since the cost of labor is cheaper in Mexico, many manufacturing industries moved part of their production from the United States. This not only is a problem for the people in the United States who are losing their jobs but the farmers in Mexico are also losing their jobs. So in the end both countries are losing their jobs and money. I think it is wrong the NAFTA allows the countries to Outsource because it dose not help anyone put the government while the people of the countries suffer.
ReplyDeleteHow can NAFTA make it fair to Outsource?

ReplyDeleteThe North American Free Trade Agreement or NAFTA is a large contributor to the limitations of trade barriers between nations, globalization. NAFTA is the largest free trade market that brings together 439 million people which generates a 15.3 million dollar cashflow or revenue. The main way this system equivalates money is through goods and services. NAFTA is key to agricultural expots in foreign countries, it reduced Mexico's high tariffs.
ReplyDeleteThis organization as a whole is a a sure-fine way to combat several flaws countries have in these fields; Social. Economic and political. However under its current leadership/command it has been anything but a resolution to problems in one paticular country, Mexico. NAFTA's primary duty was to give incentive to the natives to stay at home to stabalize/boost Mexico's current economic status. The treaty they signed with Mexico was to ensure a high projected rate of growth, but NAFTA did not deliver. Mexicos annual economic rate-income is 3.5% or lower then 2% since late 2000. The debacle in this situation is that Mexico's unemployment rate is higher then when the treaty was first signed with NAFTA. This forces Mexicans into informal jobs to save money for the U.S and any other country that profits off of cheap labor. The people who contributed to the corporate success of NAFTA are not in its executives, but in the workers in which were defrauded or decieved by this corporate giant.
With all this said and done NAFTA had potential of being a beneficial corporation for the worker as well as the economy, but greed and corruption, lies and deciet seemed to have plagued and clouded the moral judgements to how they dealt with their clientel. Therefore NAFTA should be discommisioned and held responsible for economic recession in over-seas countries abroad. NAFTA should also be fined for being in breach of a treaty signed with the Mexican governement, reparations should be in order and maybe some criminal charges. It is because of corporations like NAFTA that recession and depression are possible in a time where prosperity should be the only option.
Question: How did NAFTA get away with breaching an international treaty with another country?

They call themselves “The European Union, or a family of democratic European countries, committed to working together for peace and prosperity.” The twenty- seven members that reside within share a common currency (Euro), allow free movement between member countries, and maintain a high foreign security.
ReplyDeleteI believe that such an organization that has high credibility and much respect can improve the European nation socially, politically and economically. Since this nation is still in its growth phase, other nations have to worry less about it since they aren’t able to do much, even though they are powerful. The twenty seven members have the right to explore nations around them. Other small nations such as the Czech Republic, which have a less developed economic system are financially dependent on countries like the UK. This just goes to show that the Euro can be easily deprived of it’s value. There is no doubt that immigrants migrate to the U.S for better education. I know that many Indians come to the U.S for a better lifestyle and education, but they end up getting into debt one way or the other. Since much attention is not going towards strict border control, immigration will take up much of UK and Italy, which are now being called the future United States. There has to be a balance between wealth and power and if this is to be prevented, EU must provide aid, debt relief, and fair trade. Moreover, even though EU is a helpful organization in Europe, it is predicted that the population level will decrease by 30 percent. The EU has set an example that every country must rely on one another to work as a team, which may heal other blind spots that aren’t seen yet.
Should the developing countries let themselves be leveled up to other countries before being admitted?
Tirath Singh C Block
The European Union (EU) is a non-governmental organization, which stimulates Europe’s economy through expansion, common currency, security and foreign policy. Officially formed in 1991, as the successor to the European Communities of 1967, works toward enlargement through strong political and economic bonds between all the members of the Union. Members of the Union allow other members to move through their countries as well.
ReplyDeletePositives implications about this alliance allow trade to occur more freely and smoothly. EU has 12 member countries to use Euro’s as their main currency. Therefore, there are no conversions necessary and makes easier trade and transactions. By 2002, all the member’s national currencies were replaced by the Euro. By changing to the Euro as the universal currency, it aids to making Europe closer to one combined trade market and more international.
Negatives to this alliance would be that if their market fails, many nations would fall as well. This would complicate the relationship that the Union has built and ruin the trade market. The situation would be similar to a domino effect. For example, the United States has fallen into a recession; this recession has affected not just our country but countries that were economically connected also.
One problem that negatively affects the European Union would be gasoline. Russian gas giant Gazprom, had limited Ukraine’s gas supply, which in turn affects other EU countries. Ukraine’s supply of gas had dropped thirty percent; it affected Turkey, Greece and Macedonia. Transportation is being compromised because of this issue. For this issue to be resolved, EU will need to make a deal with Russia in order to receive gasoline back and keep it coming at a steady rate again.
European Union countries should be thankful for their alliance. Their alliance is strong and unites many countries together in order to keep it strong. Their market grants trade between all countries without any major issues since there are no sanctions or embargos to deal with.
Question: Would the European Union decline or rise if they continue to add member nations?
Allison Lee

The EU started to end the conflict, preserve democracy, and promote healthy economic ties in Europe after WWII, but sadly this agenda is not being met entirely today. The EU hoped to unify countries through economic bonds, like a single currency and freer trade and they seem to have succeeded generally. However, with the inclusion of more countries, particularly from Eastern Europe, the EU is becoming less of a progressive alliance and more of a large institution like the UN where having countless member states makes agreement scarce, enforcement less effective, and democracy weak. The current issues with immigration and minority rights among European nations are merely some of the challenges the EU faces.
ReplyDeleteAlthough the movement of people between nations can be beneficial because ideas, technologies, and culture travel beyond their origins, it appears that immigration between EU countries has also yielded negative results. It appears that more and more people from Eastern Europe are moving to the West in the search of economic opportunities. These immigrants, some of which are refugees, are using asylum to justify the move to France, UK, Germany, the Netherlands, and the other top EU member countries. Large scale immigration will damage both the country that the people immigrate to and the country from which they immigrate because there will be more competition for a limited amount of jobs and resources in the countries like France and England, while the countries from which the immigrants originate will have fewer workers and entrepreneurs that are needed for economic success. This issue has been realized and a quotas on asylum applications are being implemented by a few of the EU nations and this appears to be the right approach that will limit mass migration to European countries, both from within the continent from outside nations, like China, Japan, Somalia, and more. Quotas are effective, but it is tough to sort through all the asylum applications and allow the right applicant into their desired country. Moreover, it is also impossible to determine the ideal number for the quota/limit, so there is no apparent way to ensure the proper immigration occurs
Minority rights are similarly causing troubles in the EU, especially after some of the less developed Baltic nations, like Estonia and Latvia, joined the EU. They sought protection from Russia, even with a substantial Russian population. This is unfortunate news for the Russian minority in these nations, but for the rest of Estonia and Latvia joining the EU promises security from Russian pressure and national autonomy. This issue would probably not exist if Russia joined the EU, but as European conflicts throughout history have shown us, it is very unlikely.
--------------RESPONSE------------------------
Tirath’s question “Should the developing countries let themselves be leveled up to other countries before being admitted?”
Developing countries definitely want to improve their status and become as successful as other nations and probably even more. What nation wouldn’t want a better economy, wealth, standard of living, high GDP, and the other aspects of developed nations? However, this is not an easy task, so it would probably be wise for these nations to search for help in the EU and partner with its 27 members.

The EU is described as "a family of democratic European countries, committed to working together for peace and prosperity." The purpose of the EU is to build relations with other European Nations so wars such as World War II would no longer take place. With this union there are obviously positive and negative implications the follow with such a relationship. One of the positive aspects of the European Union is the aspect that all the nations share one currency. By having one universal currency barriers once caused by different forms of currency would no longer exist. Also it would be easier to make economic policies if all the twenty-seven nations share identical currency. By establishing a Union this could help the smaller less economic countries become technologically advanced with this shared Union. With this Union smaller countries like Latvia would be able to have aid from bigger nations such as Britain from invasion from countries such as, Russia. Though there are many positive aspects to this Union there are also several negative implications that come with such a large union. One thing that may affect every nation in the union is the great difference between the economic prosperity and the economic lull of another nation. With such fluctuations in the economic integrity in the Union this would cause the euro to not reach it's maximum value. Another negative aspect of the Union is the inequality among nations since; the smallest of nations seem to be getting the biggest benefit at first glance from this union. The small nations get a boosted economy as well as protection while, larger more prosperous nations don't receive much payment for their help with the union. Also, with the amount of nations in the union this causes controversy when trying to pass an act because, all nations must agree to the terms. Other problems are also brought up from the union by countries like Estonia. Their problem resides with the large amount of Russians within their country. By joining the EU they believe they could solve their immigration problems. This is also difficult because, Estonia has its own laws and regulations which would have to be changed if part of the EU. Also, Russia would probably not like the fact that Russians are basically being threatened to leave neighboring countries. This would cause international pressure between Russia and the entire EU since, Estonia is still apart of the union. A problem such as this could only be resolved if the EU dealt a treaty of some kind to Russia. Though there are many problems with EU that still have to be resolved the idea of a union between so many nations is a great innovative idea. By having such a union there would be less chance of war but, a better chance for peace.
ReplyDeleteQuestion: How would the EU deal with threats of war if Latvia and Estonia were threatened by neighboring Russia?
A. The E.U, European Union, is a group of democratic European countries, through the advantages of peace and prosperity of each. The purpose of the European Union is for the member states to work together to achieve those advantages, which individually would be out of their reach. As more countries in Europe were added into this organizational group, the Treaty of European Union was signed in 1991 at Maastricht where the concept of EU was expanded into new areas.
ReplyDeleteB. Positive:
1.Decrease of war probability.
2.All European countries entering the E.U. are forced to restrictions that are good to their economy and development.
3.A European currency that lessens the economic instability eliminates exchange rates and promotes trade.
4.Europe strengthens each member’s country because it is bound to other member’s countries; therefore, they are stronger against other big economies.
5.Europeans have freedom within the European Union and therefore seek for jobs in other countries than their own.
B. Negative:
1.Limitations on power when European institutions inquire countries to share their sovereign powers with the E.U. which do not always benefit to every country.
2.Since citizens belong to a larger state/country, they have to decide what is good for it as a whole instead of themselves.
C. Over the past few years, huge countries such as Germany and Italy have faced many problems. One of the main problems besides growth is the poor productivity rates. The slowdown of the European growth could be reflected on many factors. One of the factors could be from the maturing of the economy. When the Treaty of Rome was signed, the Germany economy started facing problems such as unemployment and low inflation. Another one of the main reasons that contributed to economic problems in the EU is from German Reunification. When this occurred, Germany started to borrow from the government which was very costly.
D. European Union should be grateful and thankful for their trade agreement and alliances. This is because they cooperate well together and are seen as a “family.” They have one of the best trade markets that do not include issues with it.
E. How are other countries similar to the EU? Will their economic rates increase or decrease if their size becomes too large or too small?
Dana Pistilli
C-Block
A. The European Union's main purpose is to unite Europe again, because some of it was divided in war. Especially during communist times. It was also good for gaining relationships/ alliances internationally. Member states protect each other in times of warfare. Builds economic and political bonds between the states in the EU. The EU allows people who live in member states to move freely between all member states.
ReplyDeleteB. Positive: In the past Europe has been scrutinized for forcing people in their country to migrate around, which in the EU they don’t do anymore. People are allowed to move freely within member states. They made themselves trading partners within their member states. They are keeping themselves secure, and not brining any danger into their nation. They have a united economony so they have more money, and they have a stronger economy than most.
Negative: The states in the EU are not very willing to allow people who don’t live in member states to migrate into their state. They have become very reliant on each other, which doesn’t give them a lot of willing trade partner. In fact, they are making enemies, and are limiting their resources. By not allowing many people to enter into their states they don’t have a lot of minorities, which doesn’t give them many options for trading partners. They are isolating themselves to only certain European people, so they don’t have a variety of resources.
C. The member states of the European Union are the people benefiting the most from their union. They created it purposely to benefit from. It doesn’t hurt many people except for people who try to harm them, because they are gaining a strong alliance. They made alliances with other states and now they are safely protected no matter which one of these states they live in. If they are ever in trouble their member states will protect them. They have a good system that all of the member states of the EU benefit from.
D. The people living in the member states should be grateful for what they have. They don’t have to worry about all of Europe turning against them because a majority of Europe is in the EU. They have a strong support system, and that is a plus. The way some countries in Europe are living is like how people are living in the United States. United.
E. My question is for Dana on her number 5 in part B’s positive section can they also get jobs outside of the member countries?
A) The EU is an alliance of 27 nations primarily in Europe. The EU was formed in 1992 to maintain a stable economy, promote democracy and peace, and to limit conflict between member nations. However since the formation of the EU with the increase of member nations, the EU hasn't been able to perform its job correctly. Acting like the UN the EU rarely gets agreement from all member nations on all issues presented.
ReplyDeleteB) Positives:
-Universal Currency. The Euro is the currency that all members of the EU use. With a universal currency there is less competition amongst these nations.
-Easy Travel. With the common currency and less strict limits on borders travel throughout the European Union has become easier. A drivers license valid in one country of the EU is valid in any other. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/6455879.stm)
Negatives:
-Although a common currency is great it is also bad. Once the Euro begins to fall not only one nation is harmed but all members using that currency.
C) The nation of Ukraine is currently having disputes with one of the worlds superpowers, Russia. Ukraine has warned the EU that if the disputes with Russia don't stop that gas deliveries would be shortened. Several countries are being affected such as Romania, Hungary, and Belarus have all been affected by Gazproms scheme. Russia claims that Ukraine is no longer an affective route to the EU and is looking for alternative routes. The EU willhave to make a deal with Russia if they want a gasoline supply back.
D) The members of the EU should be thankful for the trade market they are in. They have a strong market and cooperate as a family.
E) The United Kingdom is a member of the EU why do they not use the Euro but instead use their own currency, the pound?
The European Union's obligation is to secure peace in Europe and stabilize the economic markets . Originally, its started as a simple community between six European Nations securing the coal and steel market, which was booming during the late 19th and 20th century. Over the decades, it evolved and spread around Europe, presently having over 150 members, improve political, economical and social wellness in all 150 countries and counting. The Union which plays a huge role in Europe had it's high and low moments, as well as some positive and negative significance. A great outcome of the European Union is that it promotes a strong bond through economic translations and sharing the same currency, also creating a powerful alliance and security, but at the same time, the developed countries cannot be totally relied upon as much by the developing nations because of the unpredictable economic cycle which is a factor in the modern times ,due to the fact that it slows the growth of the union as a whole, for example, Germany, Italy and France have experienced grueling years of low GDP, which impacts the outcome of the unions overall annual production and their economic growth, as it reached a record low since its creation. Based on the article I chose, every member of the alliance seems to be benefiting equally because the power house countries are experiencing economic difficulties, which affects also affects the developing nations growth. Although France,Italy and Germany are developed nations, they seem to be the economically troubled nations because of the low GDP, which also affects their birth rate and increase in debt. To improve the situation, it is best for the all European Union members to strongly practice the Stability and Growth Pact because it will help reduce government annual deficit and spending, ultimately promoting the economy. The European Union is a great opportunity for it's members because it provides them with economic reliance, better security, alliance, and migration for better opportunities.

Sorry the European Union have 27, such as The U.K, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany among others and it's major focus is to improve political, economical and social wellness in all 27 countries
ReplyDeleteA) The purpose of NAFTA, or the North American Free Trade Agreement, was to loosen taxes on imported goods between the United States, Canada, and Mexico to promote trade between them. After being signed in 1992 by US President George H.W. Bush, Mexican President Salinas, and Canadian Prime Minister Bryan Mulroney, trade between the three nations tripled from $297 billion to $930 billion in recent years.
ReplyDeleteB) Positive:
- Domestic= US companies receive more of a profit by having employees make cheaper products abroad to increase the overall demand of the products manufactured. Increased productivity may also lead to higher wages.
- International= Products from neighboring nations become increasingly available, as well as jobs.
Negative:
- Domestic= Possible laying off of businessmen/workers in the US.
- International= Nations may steal innovative ideas from one another, and the possibility of a decrease in demand for imported goods, leading to many jobs lost.
C) One important issue mentioned in this article is the stealing of innovations from outsourced US companies. What makes outsourcing very successful is the ability to make the same products as when in the US but at a lower price. If foreign businesses were to steal the innovations that enable US companies to manufacture American products, then those foreign companies could take a portion of the profit made from those products, thus making living more difficult for Americans working in outsourced companies and possibly causing them to lose their jobs. So the American workers in outsourced companies are suffering most while foreign businesses prosper because of this issue. To prevent this from occurring, outsourced divisions of US companies should only hire American citizens who have already been working for the company in the US for a specified time period.
D) Nations in NAFTA should be grateful for the trade organization they belong to because NAFTA has increased the trade between them and given more jobs to the people of each nation involved.
E) Have Mexico and Canada also outsourced any of their businesses? If so, are they experiencing the same issue I mentioned in C?

The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA),
ReplyDeletewas supposed to make Mexico rich and make enough jobs to keep the nation's people in their home country. Unemployment is so much more high than what it was when the treaty was signed. The reason there are so many immigrants in America is because they can not make enough money in their native country to support themselves and their families. It's a shame that immigrants have to leave what they know is home and come to America to make more money to support themselves. Something should be done to help them in their native countries.
Positives of the trade agreement would be that immigrants may make more money in America than their own native country. Negatives would be that the immigrants sneak into America illegally to work, and get caught for not being a US citizen.
One issue in the treaty alliance is that NAFTA was supposed to help immigrants in their country, to make more money so they don't have to illegally sneak into another country to find a job that will pay enough money. NAFTA didn't hold up on their promise and now, several immigrants move into America to look for a job to support themselves and their families. A new alliance should be made if there is to be an end to this problem, but, the economy is not stable enough.
I think people in NAFTA should be both greatful and thankful to be a part of the organization because there are millions of unfortunate people in our country struggling to find jobs and make money to survive.
My question is, was NAFTA really a helpful organization?

The reason for The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)was to help increase and loosen taxes on imported goods between the United States, Canada, and Mexico to promote trade between each country. This agreement would open new job oppertunities for the following countries. before being signed in 1992 by fromer US President George H.W. Bush unployment rates were high in mexico being the reason why there are so many immigrants in America because they can not make enough money in their native country to support themselves and their families so NAFTA was established.
ReplyDeletePRO- NAFTA is the largest free trade market that brings together 439 million people which generates a 15.3 million dollar cashflow or revenue. this will create a lot of oppertunities for people.
CON- People in the US may loose their jobs because labor is cheaper in other countires.
Question- How can NAFTA really benefit us all?

In some ways the tactics of the EU can be related to that of the UN’s programs. Focusing on subjects such as humanitarian activities, rights for individuals, security and peace in surrounding areas are how the EU relates to the UN. However, the European Union obviously focuses on the European issues whereas the United Nations operates on a global scale. Consisting of twenty-seven European countries, the EU has been a source of many individuals’ civil liberties for over many years. Aiming to achieve both political and economical prosperity on the European continent are goals that the European Union has worked to achieve for the benefiting of its citizens. Including precisely half of the European continent, the EU portrays a system that aims to receive high profits for its economy by instituting jobs and competitive businesses. Assisting those in third world countries has also been a priority of the European system, as they exert to create better living for not only their citizens, but individuals in nations of unfortunate economical background. These countries also utilize the systemic currency called, the Euro which can be exchange and used in EU regions. The EU contains many areas but the main ones are the Council of the European Union which signifies national governments, the European Parliament that represents the European individuals, and the European Commission that symbolizes the EU wellbeing.
ReplyDeleteFor the beneficial position of the EU it is safe to say that with migration there are cultural pros as mixtures of various ethnicities unite to formulate new ideas. With cultures combining it allows sources of different of goods to be sold within a country, thus resulting in a more profitable economy for the European continent. It also allows many individuals seeking refuge to have a place for shelter, food, and greater opportunity. Similar to the immigration of the United States during the 19th and 20th centuries, European migration demonstrates the constant need for individuals in search of a better than their ones before. So even if it means working in a factory for low wages, or living in the ghetto with a family in great numbers, immigrants desire to have what countless of people still do not have, freedom. The negative aspects of immigration in the EU are many because of the various ethnicities integrating with one another. Many citizens within another country might not have moral attitudes towards new incomers from other nations. Debates such as less jobs and financial income are some areas in which countries accepting immigrants would face due to overpopulation. The political economist, Thomas Malthus said it best when he stated how the wages will always decrease with a rise in a nation’s population. As a result of allowing more countries to join the EU, the Western side of Europe is of more benefit because it individuals view it as a land of greater opportunity for trading and receiving a significant income.
A question that I would like to ask is: Why does it seem like the Western side of a continent is always more preferable than the East? and Why would printing more currency to equal a country’s population not workout so well?

The North American Free Trade Agreement or better knows as NAFTA began on January 1, 1994. The motive of NAFTA was to help increase and minimize taxes on commodities imported amid the US, Canada, and Mexico. This concurrence helped increase job openings as well as lowering tariffs. Prior to George Bush signing the North American Free Trade Agreement, the percent of Jobless people in Mexico were excessive. Due to unemployment, mexicans would immigrate to the United States in order to supply themselves and family with basic support; food, money, and shelter. This being the reason why NAFTA was created. I think that because of NAFTA, All three countries are benefiting equally. Although cutting tariffs between the US, Mexico, and Canada seem to like a small change money that you earn is kept in your pocket. Also I think that NAFTA will eventually balance the amount of Immigrants coming into the United States from mexico. NAFTA nations should be thankful because their governments are trying to decrease the amount of money being taken from you so that you can spend the money that would be used on taxes for something that is more important.
ReplyDeleteQuestion: Has NAFTA founded any ways in which to decrease the immigration rate to the United States?
