  3. My interest in economics would be learning about Business/Marketing because business is international and most of the multi level companies are globally spread out. My question is if one owns a multi level business, does the government own the company or does the owner keep everything to themselves?

  4. When reviewing the syllabus for economics, my interest was peeked when i noticed that we will be learning about our global interdependence with the European Union (Great Britain, France, etc.) Since we will be spending our last year in high school and joining the college community next fall, learning about the economics of the foreign countries is important because most students look into study abroad. When studying abroad it is helpful to know the economic structure and stability of the country you will be in. The American economy is probably much more of a main concern for us considering we are Americans, so learning about the current global recession and the US Stimulus Plan is also important this year. My question is, since America's main source of economic flow is from imports from other countries will our economy not fix before the other countries in the world that America is reliant on, like China or India?

  5. My interest in economics would be to learn more about the Wall Street Bailout. I wanted to know more detail that are included in the Bailout plan. My question is how will the Bailout plan effect my finical future, and how will the Bailout plan affect my ability to find a job?

  6. My question about todays economy is with the problem many families are facing with the health care plan. Is it going to stay like this or will it change? I also would like to learn more about the bailout plan. How long will the recession have to go through the recovery to get back on track. Will this effect my generation and I finiancially?

  7. The topics that most interest are those that seem to have the strongest affect on me personally. This being the amount of people who are left unemployed and what the government is planning to do to fix this situation. My main concern is as senior the cost of education at the next level of my academic career. My main question is within this global recession how difficult is it to get accepted into a decent college when people don't have an abundance of money to spend on expensive colleges.

  8. My question on current US economy is what can America do to get out of its recession? The topic that interests me most is stocks. I want to learn advice on how to buy the right stocks and when to trade them at the right times. Another question I have is if this blog post will follow your grading rubric... Oscar Lee C block

  9. I am most excited to learn about gender parity and "glass ceilings". Based on the way you described glass ceilings in class it sounds like an unspoken truth. As if everyone knows what it is but no one wants to discuss whats holding other genders/races back. Why can't other races move up in the economy/bussiness world today? What exactly is holding them back from advancing in society?

  10. I'm most intersted in the separation between government systems and economical system. For example, capitalism is both, isn't it? I find that most confusing and would like to explore it more.

From the curriculum, I'm most intersted in learning about stocks and securities. I think this will be not only something that will affect be, but it will also be an important decision for me to make.

  11. great job so far, everyone. I'll be addressing some of your feedback in tomorrow's class but, more importantly, the areas mentioned here reflect what topics we'll go into most depth with. As a disclaimer, I can certainly help all of you understand how stocks work, the different types of stocks traded on the market and explain what the advantages and disadvantages of some TYPES of stocks are, but I won't be able to tell you which companies are BEST for you to invest in. I'll do my best to give you ample information to begin investigating that topic for yourself, though.

I hope to see MANY more posts before tomorrow's clases. Right now Rob, Tirath, Susan, Sam E, Katie M, Ho, Oscar, Jackie and Aleksandra all have full credit for this assignment.

  12. My question is what is Obama doing to fix the economy?
There are a lot of topics that interest me on the syllabus, but the one that catches my eye is education spending for college. I want to know how the whole system works. There are a few things I know, but im not too sure if what I know is right. I know that some students have to fill out a form called FAFSA, but what does that actually do for you?

  16. My question about current US economy is that how does Economy affect the current stock prices and gas prices?
The economic topic that attrack me the most is the International debt and diplomacy.I wonder how will the U.S government pay off the debt during this recession. Due to recession, many U.S citizens loses jobs. However, the U.S government had decided to raise taxes. I want to know what would the U.S government do in order to make up the massive loss of the U.S citizens.

  18. My question about the current us economy is what is the technical definition of a recession? And how long will it take for the U.S to no longer be in a recession?

My interest in economics would be learning about Gender parity, “glass ceilings", unemployment, underemployment and labor rights. The "glass ceilings" topic that is something I’ve always wondered about because I’ve heard talk about it but never really knew the technical term nor bothered to ask. So now I’m glad ill have an opportunity to learn about it.

  21. Reviewing the syllabus, the topic of “gender parities” really struck my attention. Learning about the lack of women's rights in American history, I have gained more knowledge concerning world views of women, and their role in society. Over time, the roles of women in society have grown, enabling women to receive higher and more exceeding level of education. Gender equality and women's empowerment involves pursuing gender parity in primary and secondary education. Unfortunately, throughout this widespread expansion of education for women, it is not fast enough to ensure a basic education for the millions of girls still out of school. For example, due to genocide in areas like Darfur, many girls are not receiving any type of education. But, this parity does not only have to do with women, but children alike. With this, my question concerning gender parities would be to ask if there are any global policies and/or strategies for the future that can help suffering countries deal with gender parities.

  23. For world economics and globalization I would like to know exactly what is perverting the American government from providing free health care for its citizens. Since the early days of American industrialism in the 1800's to becoming one of the most capitalist countries in the world, the U.S. has been viewed as a major world power. However, if the American society has so much money then why can't it provide free health care for its citizens? If other countries can give free health care to its people why is America so different? In the 2007 documentary movie, Sicko a man named Michael Moore goes behind the truths of American healthcare and compares it to that of other countries. Before the U.S. entered this recession it was known as a powerful and influential country of great wealth. There are many individuals in the nation who can't afford healthcare and the little that they are given can accomplish very little. Should one be made vulnerable to have health problems or even be put at risk of death because they can't afford it? Is the American government more focused on money than saving a life? In the movie one part that was really captivating was when Michael Moore interviews a British couple who just had a baby and he asked "What did they charge you for that baby?" and in a surprising manner the mother replied that there was no charge. Following behind his wife the husband answered "this is not America". Having one baby in the U.S. alone can cost thousands of dollars not even including other hospital bills. But what about those individuals not covered with insurance? Is it sufficient enough to say that they are not qualified and push them away? What my main question is "What is preventing the healing of the recession so the American public can be provided with free healthcare?"

The topic that most interest me is Unemployment, underemployment and labor rights.

  24. One question about economy that I would like to know is how does a nation recover from a recession, like the one the United States is encountering today. Also, when one nation is in a recession, does this affect other nations around the world?

One issue that I found on my class syllabus that caught my interest was the "hot topic" of education spending, financial planning for college and student loans. As a senior in highschool this top interests me in more than one way. Since the economy is doing poorly and money spending is becoming more and more tight, I would have to look into student loans and financial aid to pay for college. Also I was always curious to know why the rates for student loans are so high. My older sister took out a student loan to pay her tuition and by the time she pays it off, she would have paid almost five times the amount she was given. I am looking forward to learn more about the economy, both globally and nationally since I always found this topic to be confusing and complicated.

  25. question: how is the war in Iraq effecting the economy, because i understand as a wartime scenario usually boost us from a deficit not into it.

a topic that interest me is the current global recession and the US stimulus plan but more so the US stimulus plan. i feel anytime the country have the slightest shift in the economy the government pumps money into the economy. i completely understand their reasoning but iwhy would they continue to do it if it hasnt kept America out of debt, why not try something new?

and to rob kellers comment: i feel youre being unfair by making that comment. its not obama fault we're in this recession, and he's doing the best he can to get our country moving again. anyone in his position right now would look bad though. you must understand he is only human, and should be given more time.

a topic that caught my eye on the syallabus was the plan for education spending. 32. While reviewing the "World Economies and Globalization" syllabus, one topic that I came across that I would want to learn more about is, " The Current Global Recession and US Stimulus Plan". I would like to go into greater detail about how President Obama plans to stimulate employment, critical economic sectors, and US consumer spending. From previous speeches that I have heard from Obama, the President says that United States will provide most Americans with tax cuts and they will save or create over three million Unites States jobs.

  37. My question is about the "glass ceiling" and how it will ever disappear if people in this world never change. No matter how much the economy changes, people still have their own thoughts, opinions, and beliefs. One can strive to be the best, but what good is the "best" if you dont get acknowledged for it. No matter what, the "glass ceiling" will always remain there and you will be looked down upon one way or another.

  41. As you know I wasn't there the first few days, but here's my response from what I know so far:

    1. I know that Keynesian economics refers to deficit spending, but how does this policy stimulate or aid an economy?

    2. Although people often oppose American manufacturers outsourcing, it seems that simply withdrawing from purchasing from companies that exploit foreign laborers results in even lower wages or unemployment for those workers. 42. 1) I'd like to learn about the economic policies used during times of economic hardships in the US, such as the Great Depression and the current recession, as well as economic policies used during times of economic prosperity, such as the "Roaring 20's." Finally, I'd also like to learn about how recessions are dealt with in varying economies (command, market, traditional, mixed).

    2) Industry, energy and the environment: I've had a large interest in global warming and its causes for a long time, and I want to know why industries are continuously permitted to damage the environment with greenhouse gases. There must be a good reason, associated with the economy, and I want to know what it is.
